Expanding Industrial Applications of Chloroprene Rubber

Chloroprene rubber (CR), widely known by its common trade name neoprene, is a versatile synthetic elastomer valued for its excellent balance of mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and environmental durability. Produced through the polymerization of chloroprene (2-chlorobutadiene), this rubber offers unique performance characteristics that make it suitable for demanding industrial, automotive, and consumer applications. One of its most notable features is its outstanding resistance to oils, chemicals, weathering, oxidation, and ozone—properties that allow chloroprene rubber to outperform many natural and synthetic elastomers in harsh operating environments. Its inherent flame resistance and good adhesive properties further enhance its utility across multiple sectors.

Chloroprene rubber exhibits strong resilience, moderate elasticity, and reliable tensile strength, making it ideal for components exposed to mechanical stress and environmental fluctuations. It maintains flexibility across a wide temperature range and demonstrates good compression set resistance, ensuring dimensional stability in dynamic sealing or vibration-damping applications. Because of its well-balanced…
